Horatius is built on the belief that items made with care, authenticity and respect for the environment enhance our daily lives. The company is committed to providing products which meet those standards. The name is inspired by the classical Roman poet Horatius (known for his lyrical “Odes” and the actual creator of the Latin phrase “carpe diem”) and the name of the founder, Horacio Gomes, both represented by the emblematic corporate shield of blue and purple. The philosophy of Horatius is that time is fleeting, so seize the moment and revel in the simple pleasures of life.
The market gallery offers a truly exclusive selection of gourmet foods, wines and specialty goods from local and international producers. Each month, Horatius showcases a new assortment of products with features, recipes, tastings and events. The bistro makes Mediterranean-inspired dishes with a Portuguese slant and a Californian lightness and sensibility. Based on the belief that great food comes from great ingredients, the bistro features local, organic and sustainable foods whenever possible. Culinary classes are offered twice weekly.

Soaring ceilings, a state-of-the-art presentation system and in-house catering make Horatius a memorable venue for a variety of events. The spacious, light-filled interior is enhanced by a display of art and found artifacts. A defining feature is the massive barn door, constructed onsite from reclaimed American barn wood and forged iron nails and fittings. It reflects the philosophy of Horatius and serves as a reminder of the juxtaposition of old and new, rural and urban, classical and modern.
